WHY COMPETE?
Due to the athletic and exciting aspects of dance, many schools are involved with competitive work. This gives the students the chance to perform for large groups of individuals, their peers, as well as the chance to see different groups dance. It is an exciting and rewarding experience, which helps to build the foundation of self-confidence, discipline as well as understanding the meaning of team work. They are rewarded with trophies medals and ribbons for all of their hard work and dedication. Often at these competitions they will also hold dance workshops and seminars, which are primarily funded by the parents. This gives the students an opportunity to learn many different styles of dance, from renowned choreographers from all over the world.

TRYOUTS FOR THE DANCE TEAM -
9am - 11pm - For Junior Dancers (ages 7 - 9)
Noon - 2pm - For Primary Dancers (ages 10-12)
3pm - 5pm - For Intermediate, Advanced Dancers (ages 13 - 16)
Senior Dancers ages 16-18 please contact the studio for an audition time
The audition is open to anyone who is interested. Each student that turns in an application will be evaluated during an audition process as to which teams they meet the standards for. We will contact you by mail with the results of your audition. Company members must attend our one week long summer intensive dance course at the end of Aug. Competition teams will begin learning choreography at weekly team practices beginning in September.
****We will also be forming a mini competitive team for dancers aged 5 - 7. These dancers will be invited to join our team by letter at the end of September****
SPECIALTY DANCES - Students can request a specialty dance. Those who are interested in a solo, duet or trio will be informed if they have been selected to do so along with your audition result letter. In some cases, students with past team experience may be approached by your teacher in advance so that choreography can be set early. You must participate in at least 2 group dances in order to be eligible for a specialty dance.
FEES FOR COMPETITIVE DANCERS - It is very important that each family go over their financial commitment to the team before your tryout! Depending on the amount of dancers in your family and the amount of routines you do, this can get very expensive. DANCE, ETC cannot loan money so that your child can compete. Please review the fees that we explain in your application package.
*We will be planning to participate in 2-4 competitions this year.*Only 3 excused absences are allowed between September and May. You will be notified of your practice time in your results audition letter.
